For the lack of anything better to blog about, or rather because i’ve been such a keen observer at work, i’ve decided to group the nurses at work under the following groups.. however, if you must know too, i’ve been upset these past few days with a nurse at work only because she doesnt do her job very well, at times doesnt do her job at all.. These groups are not a product of that anger however.. These groupings refer to the Registered Nurses. The nurse who im still upset with is a Registered Practical Nurse.
The LAID-BACK nurses: These are usually the male nurses. They come in no earlier than 7:30am, at times even at a later time. Some of them, because they’re so laid back stir up some anxieties when they’re not around until after 8:00am that we have to phone them up in their house to remind them that they are actually supposed to work on that day (yes, unfortunately it happens every now and then).. Even when they’re late, they usually finish (or do they really?) whatever they need to do, or atleast most of the things they need to do right away and are usually the first ones to go for their coffee breaks or to go home.. They dont panic when their patients become unstable or even when the "crash-cart" is not around when they’re so close to calling a Code Blue (or Cardiac Arrest).. They’re just cool. More often than not, patients of these nurses are in total disarray when you find them after the end of their shifts.
The METICULOUS nurses: These are usually the female nurses, but not all. They come in early to prepare their day. They "try" to be organized and usually does a very thorough job.. Sometimes they are so thorough they create their own issues with their own patients.. These are the nurses who usually go for only 30 minute breaks during their entire 12 hour shifts and are usually the last ones to go home. They are very hard-working. You will usually see them running around and do not ask for your help when you offer. But they are very reliable and you can definitely ask them for help. They panic the second their patients become unstable. They become so anxious you would think that they need to be in bed more than their patients. They also talk a lot and sometimes you can get a terrible headache once you hear them speak. Most nurses avoid them. Patients of these nurses are perfectly clean and usually happy.
The "CHU-CHU" nurses: Unfortunately, these are usually the white nurses who appear very friendly infront but silently watches every move you make and reports any mistakes you make right away to the supervisor. Some of them are in "your-face" kinda nurses, they will let you know what you’ve done wrong no matter where you are and no matter who’s around. Sometimes they are also the "you-cant-mess-up-with-me" nurses! They are smart and more often than not are also quite thorough with their jobs but that’s only because they make sure they have the "lightest" patient assignment; therefore making their job a lot easier. If incase they happen to get a heavy assignment, you can definitely predict that they will complain. They are also the "know-it-all" nurses obviously. Patients of these nurses are usually independent or stable enough to be at home.
The PASSIVE nurses: These are usually the new recruits. They wanna make a good impression by not complaining. So no matter how many patients you give them or no matter how heavy their assignments are, it’s ok and wonderful. However, they do make some safe comments at times, but only to those nurses who are also new or nurses they know can sympathize with them. They usually come in early at work and hope to get a head start because more often than not, they know the possiblities of having a busy and rough day at work are endless. They try to be as efficient as much as they can by completing most of their tasks. They try to be reliable and most often are generally flexible and can give you a hand if you need it. In an extremely busy situation, they put on a smiling face but you know inside of them they are cursing. Patients of these nurses are usually the heaviest, the complete-care if you must, the most unstable or the most complicated.
The INDIFFERENT nurses: These are usually the casual nurses.. With that, I meant nurses who dont work as much, or the "stand-by" nurses.. They usually get 5-8 shifts in a month, only because they are busy with school or other work and are only around at work for some extra cash.. Most of them are hard working too but are more laid back than the meticulous group. They are quite reliable and tends to do a good job. Patients of these nurses can be just anything.
So, these are just the general groups that i find at work.. if you’re wondering which group i belong to - im unfortunately among the many passive nurses.
